Edward James Garvin, age 79, of Barry, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at his home. He was born on May 13, 1943 in Salt Lake City, UT to Charles and Norma Stahr Garvin. He married Maureen Toole-Stevens on December 22, 2001 in Las Vegas, NV, and she survives.
Ed lived in Utah and California much of his life and learned to drive a truck at a young age which jump started his career as a lifelong truck driver. He worked for various truck companies, most recently in the petroleum industry until his retirement in 2008. He trained other drivers and helped them to better their lives, as well as, writing a safety manual for one of the companies he worked for. During his career, Ed relocated from California to Kansas City, MO and then went on to Troy, MO before settling in Barry, IL. While in Barry, he and his wife owned rental properties which he maintained over the years. Outside of working, Ed enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the western states. He was a member of Detroit Christian Church and was very dedicated and faithful to his family and friends. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen; children, Terri Barker and Terra (Barry) Merriam; stepchildren, Leah (Mike) Monteleone and Josh (Stacey) Stevens; seven grandchildren, Danielle, James, Marty, Larry, Nicole, Liberty, and Jackson; numerous great grandchildren; and siblings, Michael (Michelle) Garvin, Christine Colby, Sandra (Dennis) Deibert, and Pamela (John) Schneider.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Norma Garvin; and siblings, Sherry Louise Menn, Robert Garvin, and Josephine Carter.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Cemetery near Detroit. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Senior Citizens Center or Blessing Hospice. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
