Edgar "Eddie" R Johnson

Edgar “Eddie” R. Johnson, age 87, of Hull, IL., passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL. He was born on February 23, 1935 in Pike County IL. to Edgar R. Johnson and Thelma Hoskins Johnson.  He married Betty Borrowman on September 26, 1954 at Kinderhook, IL. and she survives.

Edgar graduated from West Pike in 1953, and then attended the University of Illinois while also serving in the ROTC.  He was majoring in agriculture but was very interested in archeology. Edgar returned home to farm, raising grain and livestock and retired in 1994. He was active in 4H for over 50 years and went to Washington D.C. for an award in regards to it, and also served on the 4H advisory board in Pittsfield.  He was a member of the FFA.  Edgar was very active in Hull; serving on the fire department for 52 years, was a Little League coach, past master of the Hull Masonic Lodge # 910 for over 65 years, was a member of the Hull Lions Club, and a member of the bowling league. Edgar was also a Shriner, and gave a presentation at Payson grade school for Pioneer Day for over 15 years,

Edgar enjoyed collecting arrowheads, was interested in ancestry, fly fishing in Colorado every two years, and camping.  He was a people person- he loved to visit with people, he loved kids, and had many good friends.  Edgar was a good friend and family man, especially loving family gatherings and parties.  He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by; his wife, Betty Johnson of Hull, IL.; son, Mark A. (Theresa) Johnson of Cambridge, IL.; daughter, Brenda (William) Mowen of Payson, IL.; grandchildren, Mackenzie Mowen, Melissa (Dusty) Olson, Lindsay (Craig) Boggs, Michael (Stephanie) Johnson, Evan (Kayla) Mowen, and Matthew (Tiffany) Johnson; great grandchildren, Hailey Olson, Zoey Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Charlie Mowen, and Eddie Mowen; cousin, Lester Vincent of Hull, IL.; and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Charles) Colgrove of Hull, IL., and Catherine O’Neill of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Thelma Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 5, 2022 at 5:00 PM.  Masonic Service will be held at 3:00 PM with visitation following the Masonic service until time of Celebration of Life at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL.  Memorials are suggested to the Hull Fire Department and Shriners Children’s Hospital.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL. is handling the arrangements.
