Eddie Walch, age 82, died on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO. Born October 20, 1941, in Hannibal, Missouri, he was the son of Harry & Ottellia (Eddingfield) Walch. Eddie married Carmen Ann (Kocot) on January 8, 1965, in Belleville, Illinois and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2019.
Graduating from West Pike High School, he received his Batchelor’s Degree in Agriculture at SIU. He met Carmen while working at Agrico and they later married, Eddie went on to manage the Plainville FS and farmed on the side, raising grain. He enjoyed farming and never felt or thought of it as a job. He loved helping John & Travis Peters on their farm. Hobbies included watching sports on television, being an avid Cardinal fan, and loved watching birds and wildlife. He was proud of his beautiful daylilies and loved working in the garden. Morning coffee with his Fast Stop buddies was so enjoyed and loved. Eddie never met a stranger and though he could be a bit gruff, he also had a soft side. His motto was “Work smarter, not harder.”
Survivors include a son, Tony (Deb Woods) Castegnaro of Springfield, IL; a brother, Wendell (Jan) Walch of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, and a brother, Alan Walch.
