Obituary

Earl Wayne Loyd, age 80, formally of rural Pittsfield, IL passed away on Friday June 23, 2023, at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  He was born on May 8, 1943, to Stuart and Helen Killebrew Loyd in Pike County, IL.  Earl married Sharon Dawkins on July 25, 1971, in Louisville, IL and she survives.

Earl graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1961.  He was very active in FFA and the 4-H program passing his knowledge on to his children.  Earl enlisted into the US Army serving his country as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in September 1967.  After returning home he went back to farming at Loyd Farms where he was a lifelong grain farmer and raised thousands of hogs over the years. He also worked at Logan Agriculture for several years.  Earl was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he helped in the building of the new church and went on a Carpenters for Christ mission trip.  He was a member of the El Dara Masonic Lodge #388 A.F. & A.M., Pike County Farm Bureau, Pike County Pork Producers, and a past member of the Independence Christian Church.  In later years Earl and Sharon enjoyed going to hear the music at The Red Barn and going to the meals at the Senior Center.  A huge highlight for Earl was being able to go on an Honor Flight.  His true love was for his family and spending time with them.  Earl never missed any of his children’s activities and later he loved watching his grandchildren in all of their activities.  He will be dearly missed.

Earl is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Sharon; three children Heidi (Billy) Doyle of Pleasant Hill, IL, Tim (Rhonda) Loyd of Sherman, IL and Erin (Frank) Lowry of Chatham, IL; six grandchildren, Kathryn, Mady, Matthew, Zak, Ross, and Patrick; one brother Harold Loyd of Pittsfield, Il; three sisters, Barbara (Larry) Dunham of Griggsville, IL, Evelyn (Rodney) Dehart of Griggsville, IL and Dianna (Donnie) Foster of Pittsfield, IL; one sister-in-law Brenda ‘Sue’(Laverne) Ruckman of Flora, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
