Dorothy “Eldonna” Heberlein, age 87, of Barry, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, January 17,2026 at the Barry Healthcare & Senior Living in Barry, Illinois. Born May 21,1938 in Perry, Illinois, she was the daughter of Eldon and Dorothy (Crum) Quincy. She married Dean Heberlein on July 3,1958 at the Methodist Church in Payson, Illinois.
After graduating from Blessing School of Nursing in 1969, her first job was at Levering Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri. She helped physically build the Barry Nursing Home. She worked there for several years. She also worked at Sunset Manor in Quincy, Illinois. She retired from the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois, where she was the house supervisor of Markward Infirmary. She spent many years milking cows, putting up hay, and anything else that needed to be done on the farm. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, taking pictures of her cows, birds, cats, dog and everything while on various vacations. She loved the Cardinals! She kept records of all the players stats and said they needed to go to Craig’s List” if she thought the players weren’t doing their job for the team. She loved her husband more than anything in this world. She loved spending time with her very large family and friends. She attended Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty, Illinois.
Eldonna is survived by her husband, Dean; children, Kevin (Joyce) Heberlein of Barry, Mark (Debbie) Heberlein of Nixa, Missouri; and Jeff (Valerie) Heberlein of Clayton, Illinois; grandchildren, Amy Lefringhouse, Betsey (Lucas) Brass, Jayson (Nikki) Heberlein, Sara (Eisen) Shelton, Shannon (Jeff Crane) Brown, Meghan (Steven) Bretches, Sarah Bolander, Andrew (Merri) Heberlein, Traci (Pat) Tepen, Chris (Ashley) Mesey, and Karen Matthews; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean (Quincy) Perrine; sisters-in-law, Mildred Heberlein and Joye (Heberlein) Viar; and a brother, Jerry Lee Quincy.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22,2026 at 10:00 am at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, Illinois with interment to follow at Xander Cemetery, Liberty, Illinois. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Barry Fire Department, Blessing Hospice or the Blessing-Reiman College of Nursing General Endowment (BRCN, Gen. Endowment).
