Doris was born on February 21, 1932, at her grandparents’ house in Greenpond, Illinois. Her loving parents were Oren K. Smith and Lucille Miller Smith. She attended the Old Pearl one room school and graduated in 1950 from Pearl High School. On July 11, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Jerry Dean Akers.
