Donald J. Ranft was born on December 13, 1938, in Valley City, Illinois and passed away January 13, 2026. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before dedicating his entire working life to his career as an auto mechanic. Don took great pride in his trade and was known for his strong work ethic, hands-on skill, and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lambeth-Ranft. Don was a devoted father to his daughters, Julie Moore and her husband, Rick Moore, of Winchester, Illinois, and Carmen Grimes of Columbus, Georgia. He was a proud grandfather to Kimberlin Moore of Mukilteo, Washington, and her fiancé, Spencer King, as well as Dakota Grimes of Auburn, Alabama, and Zach Grimes of Midland, Georgia. He is also survived by his sister, Norma “Janie” (Donnie) Guthrie, of rural Pittsfield, Illinois.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Velma and Julian Ranft, his sister Donna Mae (Gary) Tolbert, and his son-in-law, Tony Grimes.
Private memorial services will be held on January 17, 2025. Memorials are suggested to be made to Scott County Dog Rescue or Blue River Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
