Dixie Lee Smith, age 90, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, at her home in Pittsfield, IL. She was born August 2, 1934, in Poplar Bluff, MO to Carl Keith and Carmen Manley Young. Dixie married Harold Richard Smith August 29, 1952, at the home of Homer Brown and he preceded her in death February 3, 1990.
Dixie was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsfield, volunteering her time as a Sunday School teacher, involved with Helping Hands and was always available to help with funeral dinners. She worked in housekeeping at Liberty Village for 11 years and managed Dogwood Apartments on Jill Street for over 20 years. Dixie enjoyed league bowling and took great delight in baking for her family. Dixie could always be counted on to take a road trip with friends, often took care of others, and made sure loved one's cemetery spots were well maintained. She dearly loved her grandkids and especially spending time at family get togethers. Dixie will be remembered as a thoughtful, caring and loving woman who was tenacious, independent and an unstoppable force.
Dixie is survived by son, Kent (Lisa) Smith of Pittsfield, IL; daughters, Diana (Kenny) Gregory of Pittsfield, IL, and twins, Linda Smith of Pleasant Hill, IL and Brenda (Ric Berger)Smith of Bowling Green, MO; grandchildren, Cara (Andy Seymour) McFall, Casie (Mike) Woodward, Jami (Patrick) Miller, Brad (Crystal) McClintock, Josh Slaughter, Sarah Emmite, Cody (Ashley) Smith, Keenan (Jodi) Smith, Timothy (Summer Hall) Womble, Brett (Shelby) Ellison and Nicole (Shon Mountain) Smith; twenty three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; son-in-law, Butch McFall; sisters, Verda Trout, Marilyn Anspaugh and Lauretta Stapleman; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Carmen Young; husband of 37 years, Harold Smith; daughter, Connie McFall; and sister, Jackie Taylor.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow the service at Miller Cemetery at Atlas, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Miller Cemetery.
