Diana Lynn McCartney, age 77, of Pittsfield, IL, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Liberty Village in Pittsfield. She was the youngest daughter born on February 17, 1948, to Richard and Lois Nicholson Jeffries.
Diana graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1966, where she was active in theater and participated in numerous plays. She married her high school sweetheart, Michael “Denny” McCartney, on July 15, 1967, in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2023. In her early years, Diana worked in a variety of secretarial roles.
Diana and her husband were deeply involved in Marriage Encounter, spending many weekends serving as a Team Presentation Couple and forming lifelong friendships. She was also very active in the Calvary Baptist Church youth program, leading ministry trips to conferences and cherishing the many young lives she touched. The relationships she formed during those years remained meaningful to her throughout her life.
She and her husband raised four wonderful children and attended multiple sporting events and their milestones throughout the years. Diana had a gift for cooking; her delicious dinners were enjoyed by many. She was beautiful, artistic, and well known for her wit and fun sense of humor. Family gatherings brought her the greatest joy, and she especially loved decorating for the holidays. She adored her grandchildren and delighted in watching them grow and succeed in their activities; and in recent years she treasured hearing about the new adventures of her two youngest granddaughters.
In February 2025, Diana was diagnosed with myelofibrosis, a rare form of bone marrow cancer. Despite the support of family and friends, she endured a challenging battle until her passing.
She is survived by her beloved four children: Lisa and husband Eric Scranton of Pittsfield, IL; Debbie and husband Matt Elledge of Highland, IL; Michael and wife Crystal McCartney of Pittsfield, IL; and Brad and wife Liz McCartney of O’Fallon, IL; eight grandchildren: Alayna (fiancé Trenten) and Nate Scranton, Aaron and Austin Elledge, Mattison and Grant McCartney, and Lily and Maggie McCartney; and one brother, Gary and wife Cheree Jeffries of Tucson, AZ. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jeanne Personett; her in-laws, Frank Jr. and Mildred McCartney; and her beloved husband of over 55 years, Denny McCartney.
