Delbert 'Deb' O. Zumwalt

Delbert O. ‘Deb’ Zumwalt, age 85, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Barry Healthcare and Senior Living in Barry, IL. He was born October 26, 1938, in Nebo, IL to Keith and Leona Durall Zumwalt. Deb first married Shirley Lierly and to this union three children were born. He married Lorena ‘Sue’ McGlauchlen March 7, 1987, and she preceded him in death April 11, 2016.

Deb grew up in Nebo, IL and worked as a welder for O.B. Dell & Sons. He later owned and operated Anderson-Zumwalt Welding and then worked at Stout’s Repair & Welding. Deb actually welded for almost every farmer in Pike County. He also was the maintenance man at Pike County Senior Center. Deb was a talented woodworker and made many small pieces of furniture that he gifted to family members and friends. He enjoyed camping and watching softball games at Pittsfield Lake and loved family gatherings at the lake. Deb enjoyed cruising town on his red scooter and always loved his Chevy trucks. He was a member of Moose Lodge #420, enjoyed trips to Dari Ripple and trying his luck at Bingo scratch off tickets. Deb will be remembered as a hardworking, quiet man with a great sense of humor.

Deb is survived by his son, Tim (Lisa) Zumwalt of Ft. Myers, FL; daughters, Kris (Jim) Carlton of Ankeny, IA and Kelly (Tad) Miller of Mendon, IL; stepchildren, Jim Waters, Carol Hernandez, Jeanne Waters and Diann Garrett; grandchildren, Lacy (Mark) Chandras, Megan (Brandon) Hopper, Paul (Daisy Cortez) Bolt, Blake Zumwalt, Haley (Nate Pilkington) Miller and Addison (Aidan Zanger) Miller; great grandchildren, Ronin Chandras, Arrow Chandras, Bravery Chandras, Ezeon Chandras, Maren Hopper, Callum Hopper, Alex Cortez and Naomi Bolt; numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Bruce (Nancy) Zumwalt; sisters, Roberta Miller and Reta Smith; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Leona Zumwalt; wife, Sue Zumwalt; siblings, Erma Lee Predmore, Dick Zumwalt and Marjorie Collins; and stepchildren, Jerry Waters and Bill Waters.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with interment to follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to be made to Oakwood Cemetery.
