Dawn Jeanette Peters, aged 51, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on August 6, 1974 to Charles Schroeder and Mary (Dunlap) Schroeder Jett. She married Jason Peters on February 14, 1997, and he survives.
Dawn attended Southern High School and West Pike High School. She grew up near Stronghurst, IL and lived in the Kinderhook, IL area most of her adult life. She and Jason have two children, Michael and Marie, whom she loved dearly.
Dawn had a zest for life, enjoying being the “mother” figure to various friends and co-workers. She wasn’t one to put on airs and would tell you like it was, but she was always there to help those around her- never hating anyone. She touched so many other people’s lives, trying to make it better for them. She loved flowers, animals, watching the hummingbirds, cooking, and being with her friends and family. Her smile made the world seem brighter, like everything would be okay. She will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her.
She is survived by: loving husband, Jason Peters of Kinderhook, IL; children, Michael Peters and Marie Peters of Kinderhook, IL; mother and step-father, Mary and Thomas Jett of Hannibal, MO; brother, Patrick (Jacki) Schroeder of Springfield, IL; brother in-law, Derrick Peters and family of Kinderhook, IL; aunt and uncle, John and Mary Disselhorst of Burlington, IA; and step sister, Page Dobrowski of Monticello, MO.
Dawn was preceded in death by; her father, Charles Schroeder; and her in-laws, Jim and Mary Ann Peters.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 10:30 am at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 5:00- 8:00 pm. Interment at Kinderhook Cemetery in Kinderhook, IL immediately following service. Memorials are suggested to Kinderhook Cemetery or QMG Foundation Oncology Fund.
