David Shanks

David Shanks, age 78, of Pearl, IL passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born March 14, 1948, in Hardin, IL to Roy V. and Esther E. Cornelius Shanks, Sr.

David grew up in Pearl and attended Pearl schools. He worked for Abby Nelson at the Pearl Fish Market as a teen and continued until it closed. David later worked at the truck wash at Excel in Beardstown. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing with Barbara, liked watching Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies, and refurbishing yard ornaments. David was an outgoing, friendly, and giving man who will be dearly missed. He especially cherished time spent with his grandson, Josh who he thought of as his own.

David is survived by son, David Shanks; grandson, Josh Nash; two great grandchildren; sister, Beverly Woolridge; niece and caretaker, Theresa Shanks Nation; and several additional nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Esther Shanks; brothers, Jim, John, Michael, Ed, Roy, Russell, Gary, and Robert; sisters, Claudette and Lottie; and longtime companion, Barbara Gustafson.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
