David Jeffery Norris

David Jeffery Norris of Cecil, GA went to his heavenly home on December 21, 2023. Dave was born on May 8, 1965, in Potosi, MO to Carroll Norris and Anna June Dotson.

Dave spent his life as a hard worker from an early age. He and his sister, Deb were a team and mowed yards, rakes leaves, shoveled snow, and babysat. The at the age of 14, Dave washed dishes after school and went in at 4:30 AM before school and made homemade donuts at The Farm Shed in Louisiana, MO. When he turned 18, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan serving with the postal service. He enjoyed his time while stationed in Japan and recently reconnected with one of his best Navy buddies, Hank. He always looked forward to their long phone calls where they reminisced about their time spent together in the Navy and looked forward to meeting up again in person in the future. After his time in the Navy, he moved to South Georgia where he met Kim Reeves and got married. They had two children together and years later they divorced. His main focus was working multiple jobs and raising his children. He would work multiple jobs to provide for them and himself. His main job was a cabinet worker where he was the main cutter and would install cabinets in the evening and on weekends for Bridgman Cabinets in Hahira, GA. He also delivered papers for multiple paper companies, delivered appliances and whatever else he could find to do. He was a very hard and good worker until he became disabled later in life due to his declining back issues and being diagnosed with cancer. He later beat cancer and had been cancer free for a few years.

Dave was a very smart man, a great dad, and very frugal as he lived on a fixed income, but he always made sure his bills were paid no matter the cost. He loved his sports, NASCAR racing, rock and roll music and was an avid reader from a very young age. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Mizzou football, and the Georgia Bulldogs. Jeff Gordon was his favorite racing man, and he would argue with brother-in-law, Sheldon who was a die-hard Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan; but it was all in fun between the two of them. Last but not least, he loved the red rocker, Sammy Hagar and knew everything you needed to know about him and he listened to him loud even when he was on his hours long phone calls to sister, Deb. Dave read everything he could get his hands on and need not forget he was the coupon man also. He would cut out coupons for his mom when he was a kid before people even knew what coupons were! He also loved to watch documentaries, The Deadliest Catch, and Life Below Zero. Before his back got him down, he enjoyed going to NASCAR races, fishing, and going to backyard barbecues where he was famous for his homemade potato salad. Dave’s sister and brother-in-law made the trip down to see him twice a year. Dave thoroughly enjoyed their visit and most of all Deb would deep clean and organize, while Sheldon would do any work that needed to be done inside and out.

Dave is survived by his mother, June Cleeton of Louisiana, MO; children, Jacob (Hannah) Norris of Young Harris, GA and Marybeth (Michael) Norris of Sugar Hill, GA; three grandchildren and another on the way; stepmother, Bertha Prince; brothers, Darrell Norris of Louisiana, MO, Daniel Norris of Louisiana, MO, and Chris Norris of Adel, GA; sister, Deb (Sheldon) Howland of Milton, IL; several nieces and nephews including great nephew, Kolt McEuen who he had a special bond with after spending hours talking on the phone and through FaceTime; and his special queen 12 year old Chihuahua, Miss Mia who now resides with his sister in Illinois. He was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Julie Dotson.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, GA. No services were held.
