David E. Grimsley

David Earl Grimsley, age 91 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born June 27, 1933, in Atlas, IL to Carl A. and Edna F. Mooney Grimsley. David married Margaret A. Sapp November 10, 1961, in Pittsfield, IL and she preceded him in death October 5, 2013.

David worked at Stark Brothers Nursery until 1953 and then went on to work for the railroad until 1957, he drilled water wells, worked at WW Sanitation, Callender Construction, Loraine Cheese and hauled stock for Lyndle Loutzenhiser. David returned to Stark Brothers Nursery 40 years later, working in the field and greenhouse and retired after earning his 10-year award. He spent years mowing area yards, and one of his favorite hobbies was fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

David is survived by son, William ‘Bill’ (Laura) Grimsley of Pittsfield, IL; daughter, Shirley Braden of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Tyler Grimsley and Shelby (Jeffrey Scott) Braden; great grandson, Jackson; sisters, Carlene Cress and Judith (Ronnie) Borrowman; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Edna Grimsley; wife of 51 years, Margaret Grimsley; brother, Charles Grimsley; and brother-in-law, Walter Cress.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
