Connie Lee Sappington, age 83 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born May 5, 1940, to Raymundo and Anefelia Martinez Espinoza in San Luis, CO. Connie married David Sappington April 24, 1975, and he preceded her in death August 12, 2021.
Connie was a member of Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene and Pittsfield Moose Lodge #420. In earlier years, she worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Pittsfield and Capitol Records in Jacksonville. She was a fabulous cook who specialized in frying catfish, but she always preferred buffalo. Connie worked in several area restaurants and was always known as a hard worker who was upbeat and dependable. Connie was an avid walker who was always accompanied by her canine companions, Daisy and Tara ‘Lulu’. She also enjoyed reading in her spare time and was a jovial and caring lady. Her children loved that she always had a joke and was quick witted and even at her age, she felt she needed to mow her own yard. Connie will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Connie is survived by her children, Stella (Dave) Buck, Jay (Jenifer) Pleus, Gary (Sherry) Pleus, Roger Pleus, Janeice Thomason, Jackie Miller and Drake Pleus; grandchildren, Clint, Patrick, Heidi, Holly, Chris, Elisha, Lauren, Jonathon, Trevor and Carson; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; step-children, Vicki (Jeff) Prather, Michael Sappington and Chris (Mike) Spohr; several step grandchildren; and cherished dogs, Daisy and Tara ‘Lulu’.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymundo and Anefelia Espinoza; husband of 46 years, David Sappington; daughter, Shirley Ator; and grandson, Geoff Thomason.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow the service at Griggsville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene or Pike County Animal Shelter.
