Cherie (Spike) McLeod, 67, of Quincy, IL passed away February 12, 2024, in Barry, IL. Cherie was born January 28, 1957, to Jack and Dorothy Schwartz McLeod.
After graduating from Palmyra High School, Cherie went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Quincy College and later earned her master’s degree from Western Illinois University. Cherie held many jobs throughout her life including owning her own floral shop during her time in California. Most recently Cherie was employed by Ascend Wellness in Barry, IL. As a child, Cherie spent many weekends on the road showing her ponies with her family. She was so proud of this and would often tell you she was the best. Cherie had a zest for life. She was always up for another adventure. She loved attending concerts, hosting Bunco parties, riding her bicycle and making sweet treats for her friends. Cherie’s true passion was gardening and her artwork. Cherie was an avid gardener and spent many hours perfecting her garden along with her friend’s gardens. She blessed many people with beautiful bouquets throughout her life. If Cherie was not out in her garden, you could usually find her in her basement working on her next masterpiece. Cherie loved all arts and crafts, but her true talent was creating one-of-a-kind mosaic art.
Cherie is survived by nephew, John Riney of Bacliff, TX; great nephew, Evan Riney; uncle, Bill (Carmen) Schwartz; and several cousins; in addition, Cherie also leaves behind her beloved cat, Fred and many, many friends spread all across the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack McLeod and Dorothy Kellum; and sisters, Sylvia McLeod and Jackie McLeod.
Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Grand View Cemetery in Hannibal, MO. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Spring Street Bar, 18th & Spring, Quincy, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Quincy Humane Society.
