Catherine (Sheppard) Moore

Mary Catherine Moore, age 90 of Baylis, IL passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born May 23, 1933, in Pike County, IL to the late Earl A. and Jessie Olive Smith Sheppard of rural Time. Catherine married Mervyn Dale Moore on April 16, 1954, at the Time Community Church and he survives.

Catherine graduated from Time Community Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She attended Western Illinois Teachers College for two years; she then taught at Hull Grade School for one year and spent ½ year at Baylis Grade School. Catherine was a stay-at-home mom for several years. She was the New Salem Township Clerk for 30 years and worked at the Pike County Clerk's Office for 14 years, retiring in May 1998. In her spare time, she gave piano lessons and enjoyed making quilts. Catherine was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Salem where she played piano for many years, United Methodist Women, Pike County Home Extension, Fireside Camper Club and was a 4-H Club Leader. Catherine and Dale took their 5th wheel camper trailer to various campgrounds on weekends and to Mission, Texas during the winter months. She was a wonderful baker, and her apple crisp dessert was requested the most by family members.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Dale Moore; five children, Gary (Candy) Moore of Quincy, IL, Sharon (Sam) Tedrow of Quincy, IL, Michael (Elaine) Moore of Columbia, MO, Donald (Leslie) Moore of Pleasant Hill, MO and Linda (Mike) Harmon of El Paso, TX; son-in-law, Mark Howard; eleven grandchildren, Andrew (Krista) Moore, Ben Moore, Ali (John) Sessler, Tyler (Amanda) Moore, Nathan (Jenna) Moore, Daniel (Sami) Moore, Eric Moore, Blake (Tiffany) Moore, Carson (Morgan) Moore, Teddy Harmon and Cassie Harmon; seven great grandchildren, Emily Moore, Abbie Moore, Amelia Moore, Everhett Moore, Benjamin Moore, James Moore, John J. Sessler, plus one due April 2024; brother, John W. (Carlene) Sheppard of Pittsfield, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Jessie Sheppard; son, Stephen Dale Moore; in-laws, Floyd and Ruby Moore; sister-in-law, Karolyn Sheppard; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Byron and Dorothy Mills; and great granddaughter, Lydia Harper Moore.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at West Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to New Salem United Methodist Church or Pittsfield West Cemetery.
