Caroll Kendall Obituary

Caroll L. Kendall, age 93 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born January 18, 1932, in Hannibal, MO to Kenneth E. and Carolena J. Wendorff Kendall. Caroll married Mary Ruth Murphy April 15, 1955, in Detroit, IL and she preceded him in death February 6, 2021.

Caroll was a 1951 graduate of Barry High School where he was active in sports; he was known as the ‘Barry Flash’ on the basketball team. Caroll served his country in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1953. Caroll attended the Barry United Methodist Church, was a member of Moose Lodge #420, was a police magistrate in Pike County for many years, member of Pittsfield American Legion Post #52, proud supporter of Pike County Ducks Unlimited, and an active member of Old Orchard Country Club. He established Kendall Accounting in 1968, after 30 years he closed the storefront but continued to serve his clients until his passing from his home office. Caroll served as the Pittsfield West Cemetery sexton for decades, overseeing the daily operations of the cemetery. In his spare time, Caroll played many rounds of golf and Gin Rummy with Dale ‘Wimp’ Willard and Leroy Cox while enjoying a few drinks. He enjoyed duck hunting, was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and watching Illini football and basketball. Caroll also was a great ‘fixer’ and liked tinkering in woodworking and his greatest love was their Mississippi cabin at Cincinnati Landing; spending hours and days ‘working’ at the cabin. He was always ready to help someone in need and was a man of few words but knew how to express his thoughts with grace.

Caroll is survived by daughters, Kim (Charlie) Hall of Danville, IL and Sara (Nathan) Bartlow of Rushville, IL; grandchildren, Rachel (Heath) Hanlin, Sarah Hall, Daniel Hall, Amy Thompson, and William Thompson; great grandchildren, Madeline Hanlin, Henry Hanlin, and Jesiah Hall-Harpst; nephew, Thomas (Mary Jo) Kendall; and niece, Kathy (Larry Lucy) Hatton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Carolena Wendorff; loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Ruth Kendall; and brothers, Robert W. Kendall and Kenneth A. Kendall.
