Burdell Foreman, age 98 of Nebo, Illinois passed away on January 7, 2024, at Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia. He was born on September 5, 1925, on his families’ farm near Pearl, Illinois to the late David and Josie Almeada Allison Foreman. He married Norma Juanita Alexander on April 10, 1955, at the Church of Christ in Centralia, Missouri and she preceded him in death October 13, 2018.
His great great grandfather Benjamin Allison, Jr was the first recorded landowner in Spring Creek Township, buying land in 1836. Burdell attended Nebraska School (a one room school near Nebo) from the first grade through 8th grade and was a 1943 graduate of Nebo High School. He was involved in the drama club and was an accomplished athlete lettering in 3 sports. He was a member of the 1943 District Championship basketball team. Burdell attended SIU-Edwardsville and had an AA degree from John Woods Community College. Burdell was a grain and livestock farmer all his life, first with his father and then on his own. He was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and a past member of the Spring Creek Township Board. He proudly served on the Spring Creek Fire Board for over 20 years. Burdell was a long-time member of the Nebo Church of Christ.
Family was very important to Burdell. He is survived by his two daughters, Diana (Jim) Inman and Elaine (Michael) Moore all of Columbia, Missouri; three grandchildren, Andrew (Krista) Moore of Columbia, Missouri, Ben Moore of Dillon, Montana, and Alison (John) Sessler of Fulton, Missouri; and two great grandchildren, Abigail Moore and John (JJ) Sessler.
Burdell was preceded in death by his parents, David and Josie Foreman; his wife, Norma Foreman; and his brother, Howard Lee Foreman in infancy.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Nebo Church of Christ in Nebo, IL with interment to follow at Nebo Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to be made to Spring Creek Fire Protection District or Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
