Donald Bruce Rush, age 82 of New Salem, IL passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home. He was born January 8, 1943, in Pittsfield, IL to James R. and Mary Lee Evans Rush. Bruce married Della Marie Hull September 10, 1962, in Pittsfield, IL and she survives.
Bruce was a longtime member of Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene, serving as a board member, usher for many years, and loved attending weekly services with Della. Over the years, Bruce worked for Brown Shoe Factory, Lorraine Cheese, and Bergman Meat Packing Company in Pittsfield, drove trucks for many area farmers, and finished out his working career at Longhorn Confinement retiring in 2005 after spending over 20 years with them. In his spare time Bruce enjoyed reading, watching westerns and The Andy Griffeth Show, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, and loved demo derbies at local fairs. Bruce was always willing to help others and was a dedicated and loving family man who cherished Sunday night popcorn with his grandkids and telling them stories. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Della Rush of New Salem, IL; son, Bruce (Rita) Rush of Summer Hill, IL; daughter, Angie (Luke) Smith of Summer Hill, IL; grandchildren, Adam Rush, Adam (Heather) Bratsch, Alysia (John) Carruthers, Aaron (Debbie) Rush, Kelsey Harter, Bryce (Chabra) Harter, Cayden Harter, Camden Harter, Adrienne (Aaron) White, and Lucas Smith; eighteen great grandchildren; brothers, David (Betty) Rush, James (Betty) Rush, Ronnie Rush, and Lester (Janet) Rush; sister, Diane Kroeschel; sister-in-law, Norma Rush; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Rush; daughter, Kimberly Harter; siblings, Russell Rush, Paul Rush, Donna (Rene) Buckley, Lucille (Bud) Kiesewetter, Deloris (Buster) Shaffer, Dorothy (Ray) Brown; and in-laws, Tony Kroeschel and Marie Rush.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, June 13, 2025, at Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene in Pittsfield, IL with visitation to be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow the service at Gray Cemetery in New Salem, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Gray Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
