Beverly Govreau, age 85, of Jacksonville, IL and Chesterfield, MO passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, IL. Beverly was born on December 10, 1937 to James A. and Ada Harris McKinney in Quincy, IL.
Beverly was raised in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955. She went on to attend Gem City Business School in Quincy, IL. Beverly then moved to St. Louis, MO and started her working career as an Administrative assistant. She first worked for Sverdurp & Parcel, then later worked for Pet Milk, Ralston Purina and finished her career at Energizer. Beverly enjoyed traveling and took many trips with her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay. They went to Europe, Ireland, Canada, and Alaska. She also enjoyed golfing, doing crossword puzzles, playing games, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Beverly was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed watching as many games as possible. She was very smart, a good thinker, and loved a good pun. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Beverly will be remembered as a smart, loving, kind, and giving person who loved to laugh and have fun. She will be dearly missed.
Beverly is survived by her daughters, Michelle (Bob) Mosley of Shell Knob, MO; Denise (Jerry) Shaffer of Lake St. Louis, MO; Renee (Lee) Smith of Anderson, MO; five grandchildren, Eric (Kristen) Shaffer, Lauren (Andrew) Stone, Tyler (Kelsey) Shaffer, Kyle (Ashton) Smith and Courtni (Drey) Fickle; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emma, CeCe, and Reed Shaffer and Baby Smith on the way; sister-in-law Kay McKinney; companion and friend Walter Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter (Colette Govreau), and one brother (Jim McKinney).
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 12:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with burial to follow at the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Ivy Chapel Church of Christ or the St. Louis Ronald McDonald House.
