Barbara Mott Obituary

Barbara J. Mott, age 70, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL.  She was born on December 3, 1952, in Pittsfield, IL to Robert ‘Shorty’ and Imagene Westlake Rowe (later Fisher).

Barbara was a collector and master gardener whom truly had a love for the land. She loved sharing her plant and old-time herb wisdom to anyone willing to listen and learn. Barbara was gifted artistically and was talented in crafting, quilting, knitting, crochet, beading and weaving.  She occasionally enjoyed working with clay. Finding the occasional bird point arrowhead made her day. There was nothing in the sewing room or outdoors she didn't like to do. Barbara was a passionate opinionated woman with the gift of gab and enjoyed visiting.  She never knew a stranger. It didn’t matter if they were a prince or a pauper, she would visit with them. She believed even the “ugly and unlovable people” needed love.

Going out to eat and on antiquing adventures with Randy thrilled her.

She had a giving nature. She knew what it was like to have nothing and didn't want to see others in need, even if it meant she would do without.

In her earlier years, she was a talented first soprano in the various church choirs. Her family was regularly heard serenading at many places including the Pittsfield Lake where they loved fishing. Total strangers would thank them and sometimes join the acapella event.

In her mid-life, learning to play violin and guitar occupied her spare time.  Barbara was a member of Calvary Gospel Church in Summer Hill and enjoyed her congregation and seeing the church's children every Sunday.

She is survived by her daughter, Mayme (Richard Jr.) Goetze of Perry, IL; three grandchildren, Mattea Mott, Samuel Goetze, and Eleanor Goetze; sister, Rebecca (Bruce) Brown; niece, Robyn (Eric) Landsverk; and her beloved dog, Peanut.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert ‘Shorty’ Rowe; mother, Imagene Fisher; daughter, Diana Sue Mott; three grandchildren, Rogue Goetze, Grace Christine Goetze, and Obadiah Ezekiel Goetze; and companion, Randy Eskew.

Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Calvary Gospel Church in Summer Hill, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Pastor Glen Hickerson will officiate the service. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
