Arlene (Lasby) Fox

Arlene Joy Fox, 88, of New Canton, IL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Arlene was born in St. Clair Co., IL, to Thomas and Juanita (Leyerle) Lasby on March 31, 1936. She went on to graduate high school and work as a trucking company secretary. Arlene married Herbert C. Fox, and became a proud wife, mother, and later, doting grandmother.

Arlene’s favorite hobby was gardening. She loved the smell of wet dirt and the delight of growing her own food never phased. In turn, she loved cooking for guests, hosting nearly all holiday dinners. The first thing you’d hear walking into her house was “Hi! Are you hungry?”

Arlene was a true animal lover. Loving several dogs, cats, turtles and fish throughout the years, she often took in the neighborhood strays too.  She just could not bear to see an animal go unloved!

Arlene was kind, nurturing, and had such a fun, sassy sense of humor. She was a woman of God, and she could often be found at church or Sunday School, where she passionately taught children about the love of Jesus for over 50 years. She was a fierce and loyal friend, and always looked forward to her catchups with her ladies. She was the matriarch of her family, who will miss her terribly.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Dennis) Calvin of New Canton, IL; three grandchildren, Charles Calvin of St. Charles, MO, Katrina Calvin of New Canton, IL, and Dawn Calvin (Tyler Shuck) of Eagle River, AK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Marilyn Parvin.

A visitation will be held June 30, 2024, 4:00-6:00pm. A graveside service is set for 10:00am on July 1, 2024, at Sunset Cemetery in Quincy, IL., with a luncheon to immediately follow at the Community of Christ Church in New Canton, IL.

In lieu of flowers, Arlene asked donations to be made to the Pike Co. Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 12, Pittsfield, IL 62363. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL will be handling the arrangements.
