Anita (Freeman) Phillips

Anita Lee Phillips, age 81, of Pittsfield, IL passed away at her home Friday, July 15, 2022. She was born December 26, 1940, in Pittsfield, IL to Alfred and Mary P. Pennock Freeman. Anita married Bill Phillips March 27, 1973, in Mt. Sterling, IL and he preceded her in death May 13, 1993.

Anita graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1959. She was of Christian faith and was always dependable and caring. Anita babysat for several families in the area and helped them raise their children. She later began her career in waitressing and was a favorite for many customers at local restaurants such as Wimpy’s, The Lincoln Inn, Heritage House, The Red Dome and finished out with BJ’s in Jacksonville. She developed many friendships with co-workers and customers over the years and loved a good cup of coffee to get her moving every day. In early years, she enjoyed vacations with family camping and fishing and was an avid collector of angels. She was known to be a great neighborhood watch person. Anita had a deep love for family and her grandchildren were the icing on the cake! She was a hard-working woman who was independent and quiet but was known to speak her mind when necessary.

Anita is survived by son, Brian (Tara) Phillips of Griggsville, IL; daughters, Theresa Shelton of Griggsville, IL, Darla (Bill) Conkling of Pittsfield, IL and Leann (Kent) McConnell of Milton, IL; ten grandchildren, Carmen (Allen) Warren, Carrie (Trent) Whittaker, Shana (Mike) Lash, Jessica (Andy) Miller, Katie (Seth) Roig, Hillary McConnell, Brendan ‘Buster’ (Katie) McConnell, Marissa (Hayden Bradshaw) Downey, Christopher Downey and Caitlyn (Brandon) Murphree; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Larry (Deanna) Freeman and Lynn (Sharon) Freeman; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mary Freeman; and husband, Bill Phillips.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation to be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
