Amos ‘Buck’ Neff, age 78, of Barry, IL passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on December 30, 1942 in Plainville, IL to Andrew and Georgia (Brinkman) Neff. He married Carol Hoyt on February 14, 1964 at the Barry Methodist Church and she survives.
He graduated from Payson High School in 1961 and joined the National Guard. Amos farmed for a period of time, worked as a mechanic at Rennecker Equipment, owned Barry Amoco, and then went on to work for Liberty Schools for 23 ½ years until his retirement. He was a member of the Barry Methodist Church and past member of the Lions Club. Amos loved coyote hunting, camping at Pittsfield Lake and Mark Twain Lake. He enjoyed country music. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandkids and he truly shined being a Grandpa!
Amos is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol Neff; daughter, Michelle (Lynn) Raine of Barry, IL; son in law, James Saxbery of Quincy, IL; three grandchildren, Kayla (Jerrad) Spann of Barry, IL, Logan (MaKayla Robbins) Workman of Barry, IL, and Whitney Saxbery of CA; one great grandchild, Julian Saxbery; and sister, Betty (Terry) Goings of Durham, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Georgia Neff; daughter, Marsha Kay Saxbery; sister, Hazel Schwartz; brother, Russell E. Neff; and a sister in infancy, Rachel.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Chapel with visitation prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Animal Shelter or Barry Community Care Center.
