David Eugene Carter, age 68, of Quincy, IL passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL. He was born on December 13, 1952 in Iowa City, IA to Robert and Janis Worman Carter. David married Emily Schafer on June 21, 1997 in Keokuk, IA and she survives.

He graduated from school in Ft. Madison and joined the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, he went on to attend University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA and MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS. David worked as a youth counselor in Iowa and was employed by Walmart in Keokuk; he transferred with Walmart and moved to Quincy with his wife in 2001. David was a proud family man and loved spending time with family and friends, known by many as a social butterfly. He enjoyed going out to eat and one of his favorite hobbies was painting ceramics, he was very talented and particular with his masterpieces.

David is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Emily Carter; son, Nathan Scott Carter of Quincy, IL; stepson, Cody Schafer of Peoria, IL; stepdaughter, Destany Schafer of Quincy, IL; three brothers, Greg Carter of Iowa City, IA, JayDee Carter of Ft. Madison, IA and Steve (Monica) Carter of Ft. Madison, IA; one sister, Candy Carter of Glenwood, IA; brother in law, Tom (Angela) Schafer of Arkansas; and niece and nephew, Nikki Ingwersen and Blaine Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Janis Carter.

Services will be held at a later date at The Nazarene Church in Ft. Madison, IA and cremation rites have been accorded. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.
