Donald Ray Sapp, age 63, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on August 26, 1957 in Pittsfield, IL to L. Vencil and Vera Yokem Sapp.  He married Becky Hall and to this union came two children.  He later married Loree Werner Seymour on June 25, 2011 at their home, and she survives.

Donnie graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1975 then went on to attend Quincy Tech where he received a degree in Autobody.  After school, he joined the Operating Engineers Local 965 as a second generation operator and was proud of the fact his son, Robert, followed in his footsteps and joined as a third generation operator.  He retired in 2013.  Donnie was also a member of the El Dara Masonic Lodge #388 A.F. & A.M.  He enjoyed working on projects and collecting equipment as well as fishing and talking on the phone.  He didn’t know a stranger and was a philosopher of sorts because of his way with words.  Donnie greatly enjoyed his family, friends, and animals and was a friendly and simple man with a big heart.  He never took life too seriously and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Loree Sapp; children, Mindy (Mike) Maurer of Rochester, MN and Robert (Erica Westfall) Sapp of Pittsfield, IL; stepdaughters, Jennifer Thompson of Perry, IL and Sara (Jamie) Cooley of Liberty, IL; nine grandchildren, Anton Maurer, Amyia Maurer, Mason Sapp, Tyler Westfall, Harlie Potter, Wyatt Potter, Tanner Cooley, Abbie Cooley, and Angel Grace Seymour; one great granddaughter, Layla Fay Westfall; brothers, Terry (Donna) Sapp of Louisiana, MO and Danny (Patty) Sapp of Atlas, IL; sister, Judy (Richard) Edmonson of Rockport, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Cheryl Sapp.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Wells Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.  Masonic services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with visitation to follow from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.  If you know Donnie, he never went anywhere without his bibs on so to honor him, please come in your bibs or other comfortable attire.  Memorials are suggested to be made to El Dara Masonic Lodge #388 A.F. & A.M. or the Pike County Animal Shelter.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Charitable donations may be made in Donald's memory to the following organizations:

Sorry for your loss of a husband, father, brother, grandpa and friend. Donnie was very nice to my grandson, Mark, during the time he was tearing down Higbee building. Mark loves machinery and Donnie would let him get in the equipment and sit next to him for awhile. Still to this day, Mark talks about him and how much he loved Donnie for letting him have a ride or two. R.I.P. Donnie 🙏🏻

Loree and the the Sapp family,

I am so sorry to hear of Donnie's passing. Over the past many years we visited from time to time. " Now Rick, let me tell you something " was what I heard him say so many times. Donnie was unique in his on way and so much like his dad. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Loree and family,

Donnie and I spent many days and nights together while we were roommates at AperionCare in Jacksonville. We spoke about many different topics at length including all of his past and current pets.

Being that we were only 3 years apart, we liked much of the same music.
Many times Donnie would ask me to play the playlist I had made of his favorite songs.

As many have stated, he never knew a stranger.
He will be missed by an innumerable amount of people.

Please accept my condolences over the passing of a great man!

Jerry
