Roger N. Frazier, age 83, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on December 9, 1937 in Quincy, IL to Richard and Anna Kientzle Frazier. Roger married Ina L. Strother at Immaculate Conception Church in Pittsfield on February 24, 1957 and she survives.

Roger graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1956 and entered the United States Army Reserves where he spent the next seven summers at Reserve Training. During those years, Roger worked at Kientzle Shoe Store and Pike County Glass for Floyd Harrig. In 1965 he began his career with Illinois Department of Conservation as a Conservation Police Officer. Roger was also a lobbyist for the F.O.P. and went on to become the Deputy Director of Natural Resources under Director Joel Brusvold. Roger’s true passion was farming, which in the early 70’s he moved his family south of Pittsfield, to what became their family farm. In retirement, Roger volunteered at Curless Auction for his son-in-law, Brian. He was a hunting enthusiast, and enjoyed raising and training dogs and holding field trials. Roger also banded and tracked hummingbirds. He was also a licensed pilot and at one time owned his own plane. Roger was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #2967, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, OOCC, Moose Lodge #420, and past member of the Jaycees. Roger was a loyal, reliable, lovable, thoughtful and kind man but an avid trickster who could take a prank as well as give a prank. Roger’s most prized possession was his family. He and Ina raised six daughters and he always said, “if he had sons, he would have chosen his sons-in-law.” He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, whether it be a sporting event or time spent at the pond; these were the moments he loved the most.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ina Frazier; daughters, Gina (Mike) Welbourne of Pittsfield, IL, Jonie (Mark) Gerard of Pittsfield, IL, Jane Frazier of Springfield, IL, Jill (Steve) Clement of Springfield, IL, Sandy (Brian) Curless of Pittsfield, IL and Jennifer (Bill) Hull of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Brice Lanier, Emily (Kyle) Van Cleave, Samuel (Emily E. Bystery) Welbourne, Nathan Gerard, Isaac (Ashley) Gerard, Elizabeth (Will) Wood, Alex Barrow, Jill Marie Barrow, Jack Clement, Madelyn Clement, Frazier (Ali) Curless, Isabella Curless, Anna Curless, Kenna (Daniel Senior) Fitzgerald-Hull, Chloe Hull and Ginger Hull; great grandchildren, Emma Rose Lanier, Bentley Lanier, Roan Van Cleave, Gwynneth Van Cleave, Annabeth Van Cleave, Dallas Van Cleave, Noah Gerard, Kaylin Gerard, Mila Gerard, Eva Gerard, Lennon Barrow-Wood, Aiyana Stout, Jase Stout and Emmie ‘Curly’ Curless; brothers, Dick Frazier and Bob (Teresa) Frazier; sisters, Sue Yonikus and Joyce (Jay) Leahy; brother-in-law, Bob Pressey, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Darla (Dick) Motley, Linda (Lee) Bernier and sister-in-law, Darlene Strother.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anna Frazier; sister, Kathy Pressey, brother-in-law, Dan Yonikus, sister-in-law, Nancy Frazier, sister-in-law, Suellen Strother, brother-in-law, Max Strother and special family friends, Madelyn and Dallas Strubinger.

Rhonda and I are so sorry for your loss. I am so very happy to say I have known Roger for nearly 50 years. While I was sometimes a target of his pranks and jokes I know he did them with a loving heart. He had a huge impact on me, from hunting, farming and with my decision to make a career in the Army.

Ina and girls, I am so saddened to see that Roger passed.
I will always remember Mr. Fraser coming to get Jennifer at our house in his uniform, for some reason I was afraid of him because of the uniform! He was always very nice to me so I don’t know why.
My most memorable Mr. Fraser story is when he went to pet our cocker spaniel and she bit him on the hand, pretty hard. I was so afraid he was going to take our dog away from us!
My thoughts are with all of the Frazier family.

I am sorry to hear of Roger's passing. He was good to me and I remember when in the summer of my freshman year when he was a sophomore some of the other upper classmates were giving me a hard time and Roger came to my rescue. That is the kind of person he was. I will miss seeing him on my visits back to Pittsfield.

So sorry to learn that Roger has passed away. He was a fellow officer and friend who was instrumental in helping our officers achieve the professional status that was so long overdue. Roger was always willing to answer a question or assist another officer from around the state. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. Rest In Peace.

I always enjoyed Roger's friendly smile and wit when he visited the office in Spfd during the time I worked at Conservation Law Enforcement. What a great group to work with - best job ever. Roger told me once I could have been his 6th daughter. So sad to see of his passing. My condolences and prayers to all of you during this sad time. Cherish your memories of this special man.

Ina and Girls. I’m sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. Roger was very good to me when we moved to Pittsfield in 1966. He treated me like a son that he never had. I was in high school and Roger took me hunting numerous times. We even got our pictures in Outdoor Life from a raccoon hunt on an island in the Mississippi River. He also took me on several ride-alongs while he was patrolling as a Conservation Police Officer. I went on to become a Conservation Police Officer being inspired by Roger. He was a great guy and I was blessed by his kindness. May God Bless you.

Roger was one fine MAN and I mean a MAN. His word was solid. His work was solid. His love of Pittsfield High School was unwavering. But above all he loved talking about his family. I worked with him a lot in Springfield. I attended Pittsfield and QND ball games where each of us enjoyed needling the other.
Sixty four years of marriage is a wonderful tribute to both his wife and himself.

God bless the Frazier Family and everyone they love......Mike McClain

Every time I have seen Roger, I recall this incident from my first marriage to Bob Hack. Bob and Roger were both in the Army Reserves. Right after we were married, Bob mentioned that we had lamp tables--but not lamps. The very next day, here came Roger with two lamps. He said they didn't really need them and we could used them until we left Pittsfield. He was a very kind and generous man. I have never forgotten this incident! I am sorry for Ina and the rest of the family to have to lose him!!!!

My condolences to the whole Frazier family. I can honestly say Tim and I would never had purchased our farm if it were not for Roger. He gave us some sage advice many years ago concerning deer hunting in Pike County and we listened to it. I have fond memories of going to school with the girls and I only wish the whole family the best as they grieve. Know that the Ferguson's are thinking about you all.
