Shirley Ann Loyd, age 75, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  She was born on May 3, 1945 in Pittsfield, IL to Warren and Bessie Mabe Johnson.  She married Harold Loyd on December 22, 2006 in Troy, MO, and he survives.

Shirley graduated from Pittsfield High School and went on to work various jobs and began raising children.  She worked as a CNA at nursing homes in the area, as well as an aid for Dan Dobbins in the physical therapy department at Illini, which she greatly enjoyed.  She eventually retired as an activity director from the Pittsfield Senior Center.  Shirley loved going to church and was a member of the Pittsfield First Christian Church.  She enjoyed her flowers and doing yard work, as well as driving around to look at the scenery.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and she dearly loved her dogs.  Shirley was a very strong, kind, and caring woman who worked hard throughout her life.  Her family meant the world to her and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Loyd; sons, Troy (Ceci) Hall of Shorewood, IL and Curt (Tiffany) Loyd of Old Monroe, MO; daughter, Pam (Mike) Shireman of Bluffs, IL; nine grandchildren, Michael (Morgan) Thrasher, Billy (Hallie) Shireman, Lacey (Tony) Pruett, Katie (Trevor) Shireman, Justin (Brandi) Shireman, Braden Hall, Tyler Hall, Courtney Loyd, and Khloe Loyd; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Leslie (Carolyn) Johnson; and in-laws, Earl (Sharon) Loyd of Pittsfield, IL, Barbara (Larry) Dunham of Griggsville, IL, Evelyn (Rodney) DeHart of Griggsville, IL, and Dianna (Donnie) Foster of Pittsifeld, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

I just learned of Shirley’s passing. I’m so sorry for your loss. My family has known Shirley for years, but got to know and love her when she was my daughter’s therapy aid. She gave Courtney her very fist nutcracker when she was 6,and little did she know she created a lifelong love of nutcrackers. Courtney’s birthday is in December and every year people have given her nutcrackers and also for Christmas. Court just turned 40 so you can imagine how many she has. Shirley was always so nice to her. Every time we saw her she was so friendly and pleasant. She was so proud of her children and loved them very much. Let your memories fill your heart. Thinking of all of you. She was truly special.
