Calvin Dale Liehr, age 98, of Perry, IL passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL.  Calvin was born on June 23, 1922 in Perry, IL to Calvin J. and Dale Heavner Liehr.  He married Marjorie Greiwe on August 21, 1942 in Vandalia, MO and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2011.

Calvin graduated from Perry High School and went on to join the United States Navy.  While in the US Navy, he served in World War II on the USS Connyngham in the Pacific.  After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked various jobs including Hap’s Restaurant in Perry, IL and Hap’s Tavern in Golden, IL.  He went on to work as a truck driver and then operated construction equipment before working for the State of IL Department of Conservation where he retired after 25 years of service.  Calvin enjoyed quail hunting and participating in bird dog field trials. One of the things he enjoyed most was fishing with the love of his life, Marjorie.  Calvin was a lifelong Cubs fan, following the team for nearly 85 years. He had a good sense of humor and was very generous, always cleaning and giving away the fish and quail to friends.

He is survived by his son, Greg (Rhonda) Liehr of Mt. Sterling, IL; daughter, Pamela Dawson of Roodhouse, IL; six grandchildren, Shawn Elledge, Stacy (Gavin) Washington, Shanda (Michael) Funk, Shera Dawson, Tracy (Ross) Templeton, and Britnee Liehr; twelve great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my Good Friend, Mentor, and Brother, Illinois State Conservation Police Officer 11, Calvin D. Liehr.
My sincere and heartfelt sympathies to Greg, Pam, and the Liehr Family.
Calvin was an "Excellent", Illinois State Conservation Police Officer who was dedicated to the preservation and protection of the Natural Resources he loved so much.
In the late 1960's, or early 1970's, while working a Illegal "Spring Duck" hunting detail in Pike County, near Rockport, Illinois. Working together with U.S.F.W.S. Special Agent, (Federal Game Warden), Vic Blazevic. Calvin, and Agent Blazevic were assaulted by the Spring Duck Shooters resulting in Agent Blazevic being shot in the head and face area by buckshot pellets from a shotgun blast fired one of the violator's as the violator's tried to flea the scene, and elude the wounded, and pursuing Officer's, Liehr and Blazevic. Agent Blazevic received serious and permanent injuries as a result of this shooting. The Violator's were apprehended, convicted, and appropriately served time in a Federal Prison accordingly.
Calvin was selected to serve on the Department's, Special, Boating Enforcement "TASK FORCE". The Boating Enforcement "Task Force", (Two Man Teams), traveled the State of Illinois and vigorously enforced the provisions of the Illinois Boat Registration and Safety Act on Illinois Waterways.
Calvin dearly loved his lovely Wife "Miss Margie", his Son Greg, Daughter Pam, his Grandchildren, and his Family.

Rest in Peace Brother Calvin.
Respectfully, John R. "HONKER" Hendricks

Calvin was a joy to drink coffee and share with. He told me every day how much he missed his wife, how he disliked controversy and folks talking down to others. He loved his family so much. This was truly one of the finest men I have ever meet. RUP Calvin. Will see you again.
