Larry Lee Gooud, age 79, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.  He was born on October 10, 1940 in Quincy, IL to Russell and Elizabeth Heightman Gooud.  He married Kay ‘Katie’ Hammitt on August 3, 1958, and she survives.

Larry graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1958 and went on to work for Ideal Hardware for 14 years.  He then began farming for 20 years, and then worked as a truck driver for LSSD
for 20 years until his retirement.  Larry liked going to antique tractor shows, riding around the farm in his golf cart and enjoyed traveling out west.  He especially liked John Deere tractors and used to enjoy going to tractor pulls and enjoyed dancing.  Larry was a tough, honest and hardworking man who was also frugal and friendly and liked to visit.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Larry Gene Gooud of Springfield, IL; his brother that he raised as his own, Robert (Jeannee) Gooud of Paducah, KY; sister, Linda Irwin of Baylis, IL; nephew, Bill (Rhonda) Irwin of Pittsfield, IL; niece, Betty (Steve) Hayden of Pittsfield, IL and Joshua (Randa Brown) Gooud of Paducah, KY who always called him Grandpa and an aunt, Delores Gooud.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Elizabeth Gooud.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County 4H/U of I Extension or West Cemetery. To Kay...I am sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. He was one of those “strong, silent types” of guys whom I always admired in his apparent calmness! I know you have many good memories to see you through the difficult times.

I just read of Larry's death and I'm very sorry to learn of this news. When Betty and I lived in Pittsfield (1964-1966), Larry and Kay became very good friends of ours, and our families had some very good times together. Although I hadn't seen Larry for several years, I know he was a was a hard worker, had a good sense of humor and was a dedicated friend. Our condolences to the family and may Larry rest in peace.
