Cody Michael Walston, age 17, of Pittsfield, IL passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 17, 2020.  He was born on April 18, 2002 to Michael and Kari Evans Walston at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Cody was a member of the Class of 2020 at the Pittsfield High School.  While in high school, Cody worked at Westermeyer Industries along side his dad and more recently worked for the City of Pittsfield on summer break.  He also bucked many bales for area farmers. Cody’s work ethic was one of his strengths. Cody was a loving, caring, happy teenager with a heart of gold, who also gave great hugs.  He was a family guy that loved his sisters, although he enjoyed picking on them.

Cody had a passion for hunting and enjoyed hunting deer, ducks, geese, rabbits, squirrel.  Basically he hunted anything that could be hunted.  He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking, making many wood pieces to display his taxidermy.  When Cody wasn’t outdoors he was at home watching old westerns or Andy Griffith. His family claims he was created from an old soul. Another love of Cody’s was his truck; he pestered his Aunt Sonnie for several years before he was old enough to drive about buying her truck and he finally wore her down, or at least he liked to think he did. He was  mechanically minded, always able to fix most anything.  Cody also loved football and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears but his true love was being on the football field.  Cody loved being a Saukee and part of the football team. He started his career in football on the youth league where he developed himself as a disciplined player.  Cody’s freshman and sophomore years were spent as a defensive end and tight end.  His junior and senior years, he was the wide receiver and corner back playing nearly on all the special teams.  At Cody’s last home game as a senior, he received his first Varsity touchdown reception on a broken play leading to Pittsfield’s second touchdown of the game.  Cody was awarded the Saukee Pride Award his junior and senior years.  This award is given to the student athlete who exemplifies the Saukee traditions of character, dedication commitment, hardwork, and conviction in both practice and game.  Cody was considered by those who coached him to be the optimal young student athlete.  He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends, and classmates.

He is survived by his loving parents, Mike and Kari Walston of Pittsfield, IL; his twin sister, Chloe Walston and younger sister, McKinley Walston, both of Pittsfield, IL; grandparents, Roger and Gail Walston of Pittsfield, IL and Roger and Martha Evans of Bluffs, IL; great grandma, Florence Clendenny of Pittsfield, IL; aunts and uncles, Lisa Walston of Pittsfield, IL, Jeremy and Becky Walston of Barry, IL, and Keith and Dina Evans of Winchester, IL; cousins, Reece Miller of Pittsfield, IL, Jordan Walston of Barry, IL, Ryleigh Walston of Barry, IL, J.T. Walston of Barry, IL, Drew Evans of Winchester, IL and Zack Evans of Winchester, IL; numerous great aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beagle, Tucker.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Bill Clendenny, Harold and Adine Walston, Claude and Mary Bonham, and Gene and Louise Evans.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Assembly of God church in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Memorials are suggested to be made to an education fund for his sisters.  Online condolences may be left to the family at  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

A few years ago I had two Codys in my kindergarten class, Cody W. and Cody B.
I remember so well what a quiet, sweet, kind and funny little boy Cody W. was.
I think, as a teacher, I will always think of him as one of "my kids" and am very saddened for all of his family, friends, and present and past teachers. My prayers are with you all as you recall your favorite memories of the very fine young man. My husband remembers what a great summer worker he was with the city crew as he had such a good work ethic.

Keri and Michael, I was so shocked and saddened when I saw Cody's notice on Facebook. My prayers are with all your family. Cody was such a special young man. My day brightened when he came into my classroom at PCS. We spent lots of one on one time when he was studying for his test. I had thought of him just a few days ago, remembering it was his senior year, wondering what his plans were for after high school.. so sorry.

To Cody’s family and all who knew him. Please know you are thought of very lovingly. He sounds like a great All-American kid. As parents you must be so proud. There is no wisdom or words to explain him taken so soon. I am wanting to think God may have needed Cody as the best example for the many young ones taken from family and friends. I am so sorry.
My my most Sincere Sympathy, Bonnie

He was a great classmate he was a hard worker and he was always there for the ones that needed someone to talk to. He was one person who was always happy to help others. He will be truly missed and will be one looking over the ones who were always happy to see him.
