Stephen D. Moore
Loving son, trailblazing brother, loyal partner, beloved step-father, compassionate friend, opinionated advisor, mechanic to all.

Stephen D. Moore was called home on February 8, 2020 after a short and unexpected illness. Steve taught many how to live life fully and passionately (without mincing words) with the many gifts God granted him.

Steve was born on a spring day on May 24, 1955 as an early birthday present for his mother. The first of six siblings, Steve learned the values of hard work, love, and respect from his devoted parents.

Steve was a 1973 graduate of Pittsfield High School and graduated from ITT Technical School.  Steve committed himself to the betterment of his community through his tenure with the City of Peoria Water Department until his final days. Preceding this was Steve’s tenure with Johnson County Public Works in Kansas and Durkin Equipment, also located in the Kansas City area. Steve’s work ethic and dedication to his job was unmatched and an example for all.

Steve loved his morning coffee: preferably before anyone talked to him. He loved green mid-west fields and trees, quiet star-filled nights in the mountains, sleeping until the crack of noon on weekends, the thunder of waves crashing on the beach, Motown, tweaking and tuning every vehicle he could get his hands on, drink a screwdriver at the end of the day, spending time with his family and offering advice and love where ever he went.

Steve’s legacy will be carried on through his devout husband, Mark Howard, and two beloved step-children Elijah and Zachary Howard of Glendale, AZ. He is also survived by his parents, Dale and Catherine (Sheppard) Moore ; 5 siblings, Gary (Candy) Moore of Quincy;  Sharon (Sam) Tedrow of Quincy;  Mike (Elaine) Moore of Columbia, MO;  Don (Leslie) Moore of Pleasant Hill, MO;  Linda (Mike) Harmon of El Paso, Texas.  11 nieces and nephews Andrew (Krista) Moore; Ben (Marybeth) Moore, Ali Moore; Tyler (Amanda) Moore; Nathan (Rachael) Moore; Daniel Moore, Eric Moore, Blake (Tiffany) Moore, Carson (Morgan) Moore; Ted and Cassie Harmon.  5 great nieces and nephews:  Emily, Abbie, Amelia, Everhett, Benjamin Moore, an uncle John (Carlene) Sheppard and numerous cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his grandparents:  Earl and Jessie Sheppard, Floyd and Ruby Moore, aunts and uncle Karolyn Sheppard, Byron and Dorothy Mills and a great niece Lydia Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home, 530 W. Adams, Pittsfield, IL.  Burial will follow at West Cemetery in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen’s name to The Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona, PO Box 66, Kingman, AZ, 86402. 928-753-5001.  Online condolences may be left for the family at  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
