Wava J. (Aiken) Grisham, age 84, of Pittsfield, IL died Monday, February 10, 2020 at her home in Pittsfield, IL surrounded by her family.  She was born on September 17, 1935 in the Village of Baylis in Pike County, IL to Edna and Charlie Hamm Aiken.  She married John Grisham, and he survives.

Wava attended school in Baylis and graduated from Higbee High School in Pittsfield in 1954, where she was very active in school activities.  She married John in 1955 and they made their home in Pittsfield.  John was in executive training with Brown Shoe Company and after completion, they were transferred to Booneville, MS.  After a year, they were transferred back to Pittsfield to fill a vacancy in the local Brown Shoe Company factory.  In 1959, John was promoted and they relocated to Clayton, MO and they remained in the St. Louis area until their retirement in 1998 at which time they returned to Pittsfield.  During their time in St. Louis, Wave was employed in the retail business for Goldes Department Store where she had a very successful business career.  She started as a sales clerk and was later promoted to manager of all children’s departments in a chain of six department stores.  She was eventually promoted to the additional position of Buyer.  In this position, she not only managed the children’s departments, but travelled around the country making certain the children’s departments were stocked with a strong line of merchandise.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Grisham; three children, Linda Lanzone of Pittsfield, IL, Cindy Lumpkin of Pittsfield, IL, and Mark (Emily Rose) Grisham of Lake St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Charlie Aiken; and her siblings, Paul Aiken, Fred Aiken, Jim Aiken, Curt Aiken, and Mary Lou (Andy) Chaplin.

My deepest sympathy to John and the family.
Wava worked for me at the Dari Ripple when we owned it.
She was a lot of fun to work with. Her laugh was contagious !
