Mary Suzanne Worthington, age 79, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  She was born on March 13, 1940 in Quincy, IL to Donald and Marguerite “Pete” Williamson Hunter.  She married Charles Worthington on December 30, 1961 in Pittsfield at Brother Joe Maynard’s house, and Charlie survives.

Suzanne graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1958.  During high school, and for years after, she worked as an operator for General Telephone Company until the Pittsfield location closed.  She then took over as Executive Secretary for the Pike County Chapter of the American Red Cross, were she was a very dedicated and active employee.  Suzanne humbly performed many duties for the organization and retired in 2012 after over 30 years of service.  She was a good ad faithful servant.  She was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #152 Women’s Auxiliary, and a past member of HCE.  Suzanne loved travelling, and she and Charlie went all over the United States and into Canada over the years.  She was always cooking for the farmers, and liked to tend flowers in her garden.  Suzanne was very outgoing and social.  She enjoyed meeting with her friends at McDonalds every day, and never met a person she didn’t like.  She had a way of getting to know people and was an especially caring and generous woman.  Suzanne loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles Worthington; sisters, Rachel (Lawrence) Smith of Pittsfield, IL and Janice (Peter) Eiseman of New York, NY; nieces and nephews, David (Caryn) Smith of Quincy, IL, Donald (Jenny) Smith of Lockport, IL, Alex (Marcella) Eiseman of New York, NY, Elizabeth (Roberto) Eiseman of Panama City, Panama, as well as 20 other special nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Hazel Worrell of St. Louis, MO and brother-in-law, William (Mary Ann) Worthington of Charlotte, NC; and special friend, Jeff Ator and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marguerite “Pete” Hunter; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clareta Tinsley, Bud Worthington, Corrine Gregory, Frank Worthington, Mabel Holman, and Marilyn Wilson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment will be held at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Pittsfield West Cemetery or Pittsfield United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Charlie, I’m so sorry for the loss of your wife of so many years. I’m sorry I didn’t see her more often over the years, but they were such happy times when we did get together. I know she will be greatly missed by you and her sisters and many friends.

Suzy was my neighbor for years when my dad farmed by Pittsfield. I really enjoyed visiting with her and Charlie over the years. I enjoyed seeing them from time to time as an adult also. Suzy will be missed.

I'm so sorry! I just found out about Suzanne. Sending lots of prayers for you I know how close you two were. Suzanne was always a super lady. Always loved you all for neighbors growing up. Sending hugs.
