Marshall L. Roberts, age 86, of Pittsfield, IL and formerly of Griggsville, IL passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.  He was born May 8, 1933 to Ola and Raymond Roberts in Valley City, IL.  He married Barbara Anne Carnes on September 6, 1953 at the home of the bride and she survives.

Marsh served in the United States Army and following his honorable discharge he began work at Pike County Service Company (FS) and later owned and operated school buses for Griggsville Unit #4. He also operated car washes in Jacksonville, Mt. Sterling and Griggsville as well as laundromats in Pittsfield and Griggsville.  Marsh enjoyed his work, watching his grandchildren in sporting events, socializing around Pike County, and spending time with his family.

Marsh is survived by his loving wife, Barbara and their two children; Brenda (David) Tate of Pittsfield, IL and Dr. Bradley (Susan) Roberts of Alton, IL.  Four grandchildren; Dr. Emily (Lance) Martin of St. Louis, MO, Jeremy (Alicia) Tate of Griggsville, IL, Ryan (Marci) Tate of Birmingham, MI and Tyler Tate of Pittsfield, IL.  Seven great-grandchildren; Logan Martin, twins Chase and Lydia Martin, Claire Tate, Colby Tate, Connor Tate and Delaney Tate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Ben Roberts, Max Roberts, Ora Marie Brockhouse and Donald Ray Roberts.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Griggsville United Methodist Church or the Pittsfield United Methodist Church where Marsh and Barb attended.  Condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements

Buster and always enjoyed visiting with Marsh. He once in high school stood up for Buster from some bully. Gained a lot of respect from Buster, whom he always
called Hubert.

Barb & Family-
We are so sorry for your loss. We have always thought so much of Marsh! Joe will always remember all the razzing they gave each other and how they loved every minute of it. We've lost a truly good man. Marsh will be missed by all of us who loved him for all the smiles, stories, razzing, and fun. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
