Robert ‘Lee’ Sapp, age 92, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL.  He was born on March 23, 1927 in Pleasant Hill, IL to Logan and Hazel Catlett Sapp.  He married Dorothy Clift on July 12, 1947 in Louisiana, MO, and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2010

Lee graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and went on to join the United States Army Air Force where he served as military police in the later years of the war.  After his Honorable Discharge from the US Army, he began operating heavy equipment for various companies and retired in the 1990s.  Lee also had his boatman’s license and pilot’s license for a time.  He was a member of the Pleasant Hill American Legion Post #1048 and attended the Pittsfield United Methodist Church.  Lee loved motorcycles and owned several Harley Davidsons in his lifetime.  He and his wife enjoyed taking trips on his bike together, riding to Sturgis in their late 60s.  He also liked to tinker on things and was a good mechanic and welder.  Lee was mischievous and hardworking, and was a very devoted husband to his wife, Dorothy.

He is survived by his sons, Tom Sapp and Larry (Lucia) Sapp, both of Aiken, SC; two grandsons, Travis (Whitney) Sapp and Kent Sapp, both of Broken Arrow, OK; and two great grandchildren, Calvin and Skylee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Sapp; and his siblings, Vincil Sapp, Glen Sapp, and Mary Lou Sapp.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Wells Cemetery near Pleasant Hill, IL.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County All Wars Museum.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bud and Robert Lee were lifelong friends. I loved to hear the stories of when they were young and crazy!! I am so sorry for your loss.

I had the privilege of meeting Lee 21 yrs. ago, thru Tom his Son. I will never forget,he said I was his girlfriend & he had to hug me.We loved going to Boatel's,having Catfish Nuggets & Sweet Potato Fries & Sam was Happy,that he got the left overs. Lee you truly will be missed.Luv Kathy

It is with much sadness that I learned of Lee's death. There are great memories of Harley's and laughter. My deepest and heart felt sympathy to his family.

Dad, I will miss you with all my heart 😢 I could not be more happier that Larry,Tom,Travis,Kent,Whitney and Calvin had dinner together as a family that night. God Speed 🙏 Sam boy is doing great in SC🐾
