On Thursday, December 12, 2019, Landon Draper Davenport passed away at the age of 14.

Landon was born on October 7, 2005 in Indianapolis, IN to Chris and Christy Davenport. Landon has two sisters, Jessey and Seren, who he would passionately adore one minute, then gleefully aggravate the next. Landon relished his schooling at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, IL,  with unwavering support of his hometown schools in Pittsfield, IL. His past time was typically absorbed with high stakes UNO card games, full contact thumb wars, memorizing Veggie Tale movies, and being the perpetual jokester. He was the official hugger at Liberty Village, Pittsfield, IL,  an honorary Associate at Walmart of Pittsfield, IL, and an honorary Firefighter #33 with the Pittsfield Fire Department. Landon also single handedly manipulated the world’s Ketchup supply and demand with his need to eat it with everything. Landon loved adventures. He could swim like a fish, showed no fear on his bike, and he never met an intimidating roller coaster.

Landon had a passion for people. He had an uncanny ability to read personalities. He could see hurt, he could sense pain, and would stop people in their tracks to render love when it was the one thing someone truly needed in that moment. He could turn frowns into smiles, tears into chuckles, and cold hearts into unguarded inlets into the soul.

Landon understood that everyone has a story. He understood those stories are not always open and available for public consumption. He understood that a person could be hurting desperately on the inside while wearing a façade, covering pain in fear of displaying vulnerability. Landon understood that in those situations, the best prescribed medicine is love, more importantly, unconditional love. Landon loved deeply in the moment, like you were the only person on the planet. He would look at you, lock eyes, smile, and love with abandon. You were powerless to his capture. Landon’s love was an imitation of what one will experience through a personal relationship with his Savior, Jesus! Landon would want you to know that God’s love is totally and completely void of conditions. God has never turned anyone away.

Landon was preceded in death by a stillbirth brother, Joshua. He is survived by his sisters, Seren and Jessey, his parents, Chris and Christy Davenport, his grandparents Ray and Judy Davenport of Pittsfield, IL, Mike and Pat Cusick of Leesburg, FL, and Tom and Pat Bruce of China Grove, NC, his great grandmother Ruth Tesneary of Johnson City, TN, and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Landon’s Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 28th at The Crossing Church Pike County, located at 28842 State Highway 107, Griggsville, IL.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate generously to the Pike County Christian Academy at 1308 W. Landon became like a little brother to me and I am so very blessed to have had him in my life. His smile could light up the world and his laugh could fill an entire city with joy. Love like his does not come everyday and he has showed me that the true way to heal somebody is to love them unconditionally. He will be truly missed each and every day. Landon, thank you for making my life special and being a major part of my life. Thank you so much for the massive impact you have had on my life. I love you little brother. Rest In Peace ❤️

I’m so thankful I was part of watching Landon grow and flourish at ISD with our sons close in age there. Such a joyful sweetheart of a boy...young man. Andrew was very fond of him and I believe he was overjoyed to be reconnected with him in the presence of our Lord. xo

Dear Chris, Christy and family,
I just learned of Landon's passing and wanted you to know the impact of his life on those who knew him in Indianapolis. He is remembered fondly by all of us from his early school days. Some students and families make a lasting impression, and that is true of Landon and you. The write up of his life is beautiful and brings a smile and warm heart to me this morning. How precious a child! I pray you will be strengthened and sustained always by the faith you shared with him.
With sympathy and hope,
joan shepherd

Chris and Christy,
No words of mine can make things ok. The words of Christ have the comfort and peace that will sustain you. Your faith through this journey has been nothing short of the most amazing example of faith I have ever experienced! When I think of Landon I think of him seeing me on a Sunday morning in the halls of E91 and running to me with that sweet smile and unconditional love that you have talked about so many times! I know the days ahead will be so hard, please know I will be praying for all of you.
