Mary ‘Evelyn’ Ward, age 92, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield.  She was born on December 31, 1926 in Pike County, IL to Leslie and Mary Anna Powell Baker.  She married Charles Ward on July 15, 1945 and he preceded her in death on June 7, 2002.

Evelyn graduated from Griggsville High School and went on to work in the office at Brown Shoe Factory for a year.  She then married Charles and became a farmwife, working on the farm and taking care of their home and daughter, Susan.  Evelyn was a seamstress, making many of Susan’s clothes when she was small and was an outstanding cook.  She and Charles were members of a square dancing group during the early years of their marriage. They were two of the founding members of the country couples group.  Evelyn was very hardworking and was always there to help anyone in need.  She loved reading when she had the time.  Evelyn always considered New Hartford Christian Church as her home church even though she attended many others over the years.  She taught Sunday School and Children’s Worship for 46 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Norman) Shaw of Pittsfield, IL; grandson, Cody Ward of Pittsfield, IL; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Ward of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ward; parents, Leslie and Mary Anna Baker; granddaughter, Kristin Bradley; and siblings, Leslie Baker, Jr., Paul Baker, and Kathryn Stephenson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Christian Academy.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Sorry for your loss!
I remember going out to your house, I think it was Brownies or Girl Scouts and sleeping in a large army style military green tent. I think your mother was a leader.
Somebody grabbed me by the ankles and pulled me half way out of the tent.
Your mother was so bubbly and sweet.
She will be sadly missed.

For Susan and family
You are in my thoughts as I recall Mrs. Evelyn.
My Mom, Glenna Claus would be very saddened to hear this. Mom was always speaking so well of her. Phone calls and parades were their common spaces.
My Sincere sympathy, Bonnie
