Daniel J. Yonikus, age 85, of Pittsfield, IL passed away at his home on October 30, 2019.  He was born on December 28, 1933 in Assumption, IL to Joseph and Gertrude Delaney Yonikus.  He married Sue Frazier on June 23, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and she survives.

Dan attended school in Assumption, IL before joining the United States Navy.  After his honorable discharge from the service, he joined the Illinois State Police where he served for 30 years in District 20, retiring in 1985 as a Master Sergeant Administrative Officer.  He was proud to serve the same area for his entire Illinois State Police career.  After his retirement, Dan enjoyed spending time at home with his family and his dog, Moose.  He also liked spending time going to auctions and collecting antiques.  Dan was a man of few words with a gentle soul.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Yonikus; three daughters, Toni (Bill) Hannant of Hannibal, MO, Traci (Kenny) Yelliott of Pittsfield, IL, and Tami (Mick) Webel of Pittsfield, IL; eight grandchildren, Lindsey (Curt) Lewis, Daniel Hannant, Kayla (Scott) Riley, Keenan (Tracy) Yelliott, Kayci (Sam Hartung) Yelliott, Reese Ramsey, Angie (Brad) Lipcaman, and Drew (McKinsey Vinyard) Webel; eleven great grandchildren, Gracyn Lewis, Cooper Lewis, Kamryn Riley, Seton Riley, Will Riley, Austin Priest, Cooper Priest, Rynleigh Priest, Harvin Yelliott, Rylie Lipcaman, and Rory Lipcaman; three sisters, Josephine Stickel, Mary Nolan, and Karen Sartore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gertrude Yonikus; and sister, Miriam Yonikus.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Mark Schulte officiating.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield.  There will be a visitation from 9:00 until time of Mass on Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Memorials are suggested to the Pike County Animal Shelter.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
