Glenna Lee Stone Thomas, age 83, of Griggsville, IL was called home on October 26, 2019 peacefully in her daughter’s home after a long courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was born on August 17, 1936 at her grandparent’s home in rural Macoupin County, IL to John L. Stone and Ruth G. Long Blodget.  She married Billy E. Thomas on May 24, 1958 and he preceded her in death on January 11, 2012.  At that time, Glenna moved into her daughter’s home.

Glenna graduated from Jerseyville High School in 1954.  She went on to school to be a key punch operator and then went to work in Washington D.C. for a few years.  Glenna and Billy lived in Alton for several years where she worked for Olan Mills.  Then they relocated to Pike County and she worked for the Pike Press in Pittsfield and then the Griggsville Public Library from where she retired.  Glenna was of the Methodist faith.  She enjoyed reading, watching TV, especially Hee Haw, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved getting out and visiting with family and also loved going to Red Lobster.  She enjoyed listening to music whether on the radio, TV, or a live band and especially liked country music artists including Willie Nelson and Ronnie Milsap.  Glenna was very loving and caring, and she really loved laughing and being with family.

She is survived by a son, Charles “Chuck” (Charlotte) Thomas of Griggsville, IL; daughter, Kelli (William) Hull of Griggsville, IL; stepsons, Steven (Lori) Thomas of Virginia, IL and Harold (Peggy) Thomas of Farmersville, IL; 26 grandchildren, which include Brooklyn (Chad) Birchenall of Eureka, IL, Katlyn (Jayme Mountain) Hull of Perry, IL, Howard Hull of Peoria, IL, Edward (Ali) Hull of Griggsville, IL, Keith (Destiny Embree) Hull of Louisiana, MO, Adreanah Hull of Griggsville, IL, Brianna Thomas of Griggsville, IL, Tyler Thomas of Griggsville, IL, Zach Thomas of Griggsville, IL,  Bridgette (Randy) Crosslin of Tucson, AZ, Tiffany (Jeff) Bartolazzi of Beaufort, SC, and Sophie Thomas of Virginia, IL; 48 great grandchildren, which include Tristen Birchenall, Ashton Birchenall, Isabella Birchenall, Addison Birchenall, Dakota Borrowman, Ryker Hull, Kai Hull, Beau Hull, and Avery Hull; numerous great great grandchildren; brother, Eugene (Nancy) Stone of Jerseyville, IL and Robert (Heather) Stone of Charleston, SC; sisters, Sharon Spooner of Godfrey, IL, Mary (Richard) Garcia of Fontana, CA, and Donna (Jim) Marfice of Lake Kiowa, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews which include Lori Cornell and family of Brockport, NY an Rich (Sandy Bequette) Cornell and family of Chesterfield, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Thomas; mother and stepfather, Ruth (Daniel) Blodget; father and stepmother, John (Edith) Stone; grandparents, Jerome and Lida Long who raised her after her parent’s divorce and while her step father was stationed in California during WWII and her mother joined him on the base; stepsons, Ronald Lee Thomas and Alan Dean Thomas; a grandson in infancy, Jeremiah Thomas; niece, Gerri Dawn Cornell; two brothers, Terry Stone and Larry Stone; sister, Gloria Cornell and twin sisters in infancy, Beverly Raye Stone and Judith Gayle Stone.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL.  Interment will follow at Green Pond Cemetery near Pearl, IL.  Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family c/o Kelli Hull.  Online condolences may be left to the family at Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Wanted you all to no how we felt about Glenna Lee, Steve told me over and over She was a wonderful person. Steve always said she was more of a Mother to him than Stella could ever be. He loved her very much! He has told me numerous things that happened in his childhood she took him in when he had no one. He will never forget that. I just want to say that you are a great daughter to have taken your Mother in when she needed you so much I no how hard it is . It just shows what a caring loving person you are, I took care of my mom for 8years and I feel good about it and I no I did the right thing. You have beautiful memories In your heart and mind all of you Lori,Steve and Sophie

So very sorry for your loss; she was a sweet and loving woman. I was glad I was able to know her. I am unable to attend the visitation or funeral but will keep you in our prayers. Claire, Ben and Marek McKinney.

I am so sorry for your loss I know The Grieving you must feel deep down in your heart. It takes a long time for the healing to take place however your mom will always have a place in your heart
