John R. “Huck” McDonald, age 68, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.  He was born on March 1, 1951 in Timewell, IL to John and Ethel “Fay” Smith McDonald.  He married Eva Cawthon on September 24, 1977 in Barry, IL and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2018.

John attended school in Pittsfield.  He worked as a farmhand and then became a truck driver.  He worked for various places including Sharkey Transportation, Dot Foods, Carnes Trucking, Callender’s, and as an owner and operator for Langer’s.  He eventually retired due to his health.  John enjoyed watching Hee Haw and the Grand Ole Opry, and loved country music.  He also enjoyed a good bottle of whiskey.  In earlier years, he liked taking the kids with him in his truck for work, and he and Eva enjoyed riding motorcycles.  Most of all, John loved spending time with his grandchildren and he was a very witty, loyal and family oriented man.

He is survived by his sons, Jimmy (Morgan) McDonald of Littleton, IL, Robert (Terry) Smith of Peoria, AZ, Doug (Tami) McDonald of Pittsfield, IL, and Mark (Amy) McDonald of Barry, IL; a daughter, Becky McDonald of Belleville, IL; eleven grandchildren, Austin Mason, Courtney Mason, Dustin Mason, Mark McDonald, Jr., Tyler McDonald, Madison Moore, DaeLyn McDonald, Gavyn McDonald, Sam (Johie) Hetrick, Eli Norton, and Mark Norton; a great grandchild, Brysenn Deitzman; sisters, Sharon “Kay” (Jerry) Dickey of New Braunfels, TX, Evelyn Terrell of Chatham, IL and Letha (Alan) Dunn of Hobbs, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva McDonald; his parents, John and Ethel “Fay” McDonald; granddaughter, Grace McDonald; brother, Jerry McDonald; sisters, Donna Brown and Doris Bose; and brother-in-law, Bill Terrell.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 6:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
