Frank Vollmer, 76, of New Canton, IL died Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.  He was born on October 21, 1942 in St. Peters, MO to James and Ida Sweazey Vollmer.  He married Lyn Scranton in Clarksville, MO on March 3, 1966, and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2013.

Frank grew up in House Springs, MO, where he attended high school and was very active in the swimming program.  He went on to join the United States Air Force in 1960.  After his Honorable Discharge from the service, he moved to Clarksville, MO to work and he met his wife, Lyn.  Frank and Lyn moved to Pike County and he began trucking over the road, continuing that for many many years until his retirement.  He also did a lot of farm work for different farmers in the area.  Frank enjoyed fishing and hanging out at Goobies and the Copperhead, where he visited with his friends and played on the machines.  He dearly loved his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as he could.

He is survived by his daughters, Laura (Jeremy) Damon of Quincy, IL and Kathy (Rich Bernard) Vollmer of New Canton, IL; twelve grandchildren, Lindsay, Casey, Aaron, Ashley, Katie, Bobby, Makia, Klayton, Kobie, Tessa, Wesley, and Francesca “Frankie”; twenty-two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise (James) Reed of High Ridge, MO and Donna (Joey) Cuyler of Casa Grande, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lyn; a son, Frank Alvin “Slugger” Vollmer in 2016; five brothers, Walt Vollmer, Patrick Vollmer, Kenneth Vollmer, Joseph Kile, and Jerry Kile; and two sisters, Betty Dawkins and Francis King.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 6:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Interment will be at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Taylor Martin Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
