Dora May Weinant age 95, of Pittsfield, IL passed away at Illini Hospital on May 10, 2019.  She was born on April 24, 1924 to George and Beulah Mae Howland Smith.  She married Richard Conrad Weinant on April 25, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1981.  

Dora May graduated from Pittsfield High School and then began working at Brown Shoe Factory in Pittsfield.  Later she went to work for the Pittsfield Hot Lunch program for 26 years and retired in 1989.  In earlier years, Dora May enjoyed crocheting and latch hook afghans.  She always put in a big garden in her backyard and when she was able, she really loved travelling, especially with her sisters.  She also collected dolls and chicken knick-knacks.  Dora May was proud she was able to stay in her own home and take care of her house.  She loved her family very much, especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Elaine (WJ) Kirk of Pittsfield, IL and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Weinant of Springfield, IL; six grandchildren, John (Michele) Weinant of Dawson, IL, Justin (Tabatha) Kirk of Jacksonville, IL, Judson Kirk of Griggsville, IL, Richard (Tasha) Kirk of Griggsville, IL, Eric (Sarah) Weinant of Chatham, IL, and Jaime Weinant of Springfield, IL; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hull and Nancy (Art) Brackett, both of Griggsville, IL; and three sisters-in-law, Dixie Smith, Marilyn Smith and Judy Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Weinant; three sons, Michael Edward Weinant in infancy, Dennis Wayne Weinant, and Roger Allen Weinant; siblings, Dorothy Smith, Gladys Chaney, Margaret Richards, Betty Crump, Mildred Smith, David Smith, Harold Smith, George Smith, Jr, and Herschel Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Oakwood Cemetery, American Legion Honor Guard, or the Pittsfield Fire Department.  Online condolences may be left to the family at  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

I am sorry to just read of Dora's passing. I became acquainted with her many years ago and always enjoyed hearing stories and updates about her family that she loved so much.
