Lance Courtney Hays Bowen, 35, of El Dara, IL passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019.  Lance was born June 30, 1983, the 2nd son of Ronnie and Pam Bowen of Barry.  He married Amanda Jo Booth November 10, 2012 and she survives.

Outside of his love for his children, sports were always very important to Lance.  He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved fishing, mushrooming, camping, and mowing his yard.  He loved playing his guitar.  Family was the most important thing to Lance.  His love for all children was amazing, and he never met a kid he wouldn’t take home.  He was all about his family, playing games, having family movie nights, and just horsing around with them.  Lance was an amazing father and son.  He was always present for Hazel’s volleyball and Cayden’s basketball games.  He was a devoted, passionate, and caring coach for Orion and his boys on the basketball and baseball teams.

Lance is survived by his wife, Amanda, and his children, Cayden, Hazel, and Orion.  Also surviving are his parents, Ronnie and Pam Bowen of Barry, and two brothers Stephen (Amanda) Bowen of Griggsville and Denton Bowen of Barry.  His in-laws, Dennis and Lorri Booth survive along with a brother-in-law, Aaron Booth of El Dara and sister-in-law Sandra and Jody Coy of Pleasant Hill.  Several aunts, uncles, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Hazel Bowen and Glen Williams and Shirley Beaver, and his Aunt Debbie Erke.  He was also preceded in death by his grandparents-in-law, Harold and Barbara Salisbury.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry.  Visitation will be held Monday, April 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.  Memorials may be left to the family.  Online condolences may be left at

Ronnie and Pam, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can't even imagine your pain. He sure was a handsome man and it sounds like he was a man worth knowing. There is no way to take your pain away, but I am here if you need to talk, scream, or cry. Any hour of the day or night.

God Bless all of you and yours.

I will forever be grateful to Lance for showing me generosity, love, and friendship when I needed it the most several years ago. If a friend needed anything he was there, if he could help. And my God, so much energy & life in that skinny body demanding you to cheer up and join everyone and not to be sad & alone. I’m just so grateful. Thank you for sharing your son, husband, and father with us. Nothing can ever can fill the void of him being gone. But he left such a strong impression on all of us that he will never be forgotten. Much Love.
