Music by The Piano Brothers

Geneva (Vaughn) Allensworth, 90 of New Canton passed away at her residence on March 23, 2019. She was born in Eldorado, IL on December 15, 1928 to John and Bessie (Sutherland) Vaughn. She married Herman E. Allensworth on October 11, 1947 in Hannibal, MO and he survives.

She was a lifetime member of the New Canton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School classes to adults and children alike for many, many years and also served on the board. Geneva volunteered and served on several boards and committees. She volunteered her time for any community function, festival or holiday. When the community needed someone to head a committee or community project, they would call on her and she would happily accept. She was a member of the Hannibal Art Club for over 30 years and had a showing of her own watercolors at the Hannibal Library.  She volunteered her time to teach art at the grade school along with being room mother for many years and all thru the years her children were in school. Geneva loved to travel and grew her own herb garden and even dabbled in taxidermy. Her daughters claim she was always humble, kind and fair. As a child she and her sister were known as “The Vaughn Sisters” and sang professionally on the radio. She loved reading, Scrabble, collecting Indian artifacts and being outdoors. As busy as her life was, she always took time for her family.

She is survived by her husband Herman, three daughters; Cynthia Allensworth of House Springs, MO, Belinda Allensworth of New Canton and Lori Brown (husband Larry) also of New Canton. Two grandchildren survive; Nick Axelberd of Denver, Co and Melissa Baier of Oswego, IL along with six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, David Allensworth and four brothers; Delmar, Kenneth, Floyd and Carl Vaughn and two sisters; Jewell Morgan and Berneda Chelton.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday March 28, 2018 at Samuel Taylor Cemetery new Rockport. There will be a visitation at the cemetery one hour prior to the service where the family will meet with friends. Memorials are suggested to the Pike County Animal Shelter. The Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.
