Carol, our deepest sympathy to you and your sons. Growing up "just down the road", I've known Fred for a long time. He always had a smile, laughed a lot, and took time to visit. I will always remember how much my Dad enjoyed visiting with Fred. Whenever my mom knew that Dad and Fred were talking, she knew it would be a LONG time! Fred will be missed by all.

Carole and family. My sincerest condolences. Two weeks ago Fred sat down with me at the fish Friday lunch at the Courtyard for a long chat. How proud he was of your many trips. Fred said, "The one trip that was outstanding and I enjoyed the most was our trip to Africa". Fred then went into great detail describing looking a Lion in the face. A wonderful memory of an old friend. My God bless.

Dear Carole and family--My deepest condolences. I was saddened indeed to learn of Fred's passing. As you know, Fred and I spent many hours working for the Orr Center, C-FAR, and other University of Illinois successful initiatives that would not have been successful without Fred's leadership and influential behind the scenes efforts. My favorite story about Fred is a conversation we had one day on the way to Springfield to visit with Senate President Vince Demuzio about one or the other of our various efforts to improve and expand agricultural research in Illinois. I asked Fred why he was willing to spend so much time and effort working for the UI. In his inimitable way he said, "Some guys like to fish, some chase women, but I like to work for the University of Illinois." I will really miss Fred. I'm really glad I had a chance to visit with him at length on the phone when we were in Florida last year. Sincerely, Don
