Music by The Piano Brothers

Lawrence P. Lane, age 85, of rural Pearl, IL passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his home.  He was born on May 25, 1933 in Pearl, IL to Howard and Beryl Renoud Lane.  He married Evelyn Bolocano and of that union came 5 children.  He later married Judy, and she preceded him in death.

Lawrence was especially proud of his military service.  He spent 21 years on active duty in the US Marine Corps where he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Upon retirement, he returned to his family farm in Pearl, IL where he farmed a bit before purchasing and operating several local diners in Detroit, Pearl, Milton, and Pittsfield.  Lawrence was a hard-worker his entire life and instilled his great qualities into his children and grandchildren.  His love of the Marine Corp inspired two of his daughters, his son, and a granddaughter to also join the Corps.  He was an avid bowler and loved to fish, build things, and grow things.  Lawrence was a generous, kind and loving man who was always ready and willing to help anyone in need.  He loved people and they loved him.  He was especially loved by his nieces and nephews who joined the rest of the family each year on Lawrence’s birthday to help him celebrate at the family farm.  He was also a lover of stray animals and they were always finding their way to him.  Lawrence was a member of the Pearl Church of Christ and attended church regularly when he was able.  He loved God and trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was confident of his eternal life with Him.  He enjoyed a full and prosperous life but looked forward to reuniting with his loved ones and spoke of them often.

He is survived by his children, Barbara Lawton of Cape Carteret, NC, Olivia Pontius of Las Vegas, NV, Roberta (Mark) Fox of Fredericksburg, VA, Annita (Henry) Best of Emerald Isle, NC, and Eric Lane of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Paul Lawton, Christine (Blake) Dooley, Michelle (Jeremy) Smith, David (Suzy) Thompson, Amanda Pontius, Kayla Helmus, Sean Helmus, Rachel Best, Emily Best, Rebekah Best, Lydia Best, and Benjamin Mellor; great grandchildren, Whitney Smith, Mya Smith, Maleia Smith, Kennedy Smith, Alana Smith, Megan Falzarano, Micky Falzarano, Elizabeth Dooley, and Brendan Thompson; siblings, Flora Mae Schlieper of Jacksonville, IL, Russell (Judy) Lane of Alton, IL, Judy Withrow of Evansville, IN, and Rosemary Rayburn of Reynolds, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; siblings, Edna Murdoch, Ethyl Accord, Veda Weeks, Freda Howland, Richard Morgan; and Gladys Harbin; stepmother, Helen Butler Lane; and numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL.  Interment will follow at Greenpond Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Pearl Church of Christ of the Semper Fi Fund.  Online Condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

For Barbara and all the Lane family my sincere condolences for the loss of Mr. Lawrence.
I only learned today of his passing. The obituary picture is so distinguished and handsome. I know he and all of you were very proud of his service and I too am honored.
Please know I am with you in thought and pray God comforts this family as you can maybe celebrate his new beginning in a better place. My hope is there will be many warm, pleasant, and even funny memories to sustain you.
My love and sincere sympathy, Bonnie
