Diana Dale Helm, age 74, of Milton, IL died on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at her residence.  She was born on January 1, 1945 in Pearl, the daughter of John and Doris Lane McBrian.  She married Lavern Helm on December 20, 1963 at Pearl Church of Christ, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2006.

Diana graduated from Pearl Grade School and East Pike High School.  Right out of high school, she worked for A.W. Schimmel, Sr. as a legal secretary, then as a bookkeeper in the office of Brown Shoe Company.  She also worked as a secretary for East Pike School, and a bookkeeper for Prairie Fertilizer, Jiffi Stop, Amoco, and eventually retired as a PMR at the Milton Post Office.  She enjoyed sewing, crafting, building floats for the Milton Corn Carnival, helping with Mounted Angels, and especially loved going to yard sales.  The most important thing in her life was her family, kids, and grandchildren, and being a member of the Church of Christ in Pearl.

She is survived by her son, Tom (Deb) Helm of Milton, IL; daughter, Barbara (Mark) Ballinger of Milton, IL; and two grandchildren, Michael Phillips and Kerri Ballinger, both of Milton, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 43 years, Lavern Helm.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Greenpond Cemetery near Pearl, IL.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials are suggested to Pearl Church of Christ or Illini Community Hospital Oncology Department.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Thoughts and prayers for all of you during this difficult time. Diane was always so kind! She treated us like family from the first time we met her, and she always had a smile on her face whether she was helping build us an amazing float for the parade, or cooking up something delicious to eat! She will definitely be missed by all that knew her.
