Johnie Ray Kern, age 80, of Milton, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his home.  He was born on February 4, 1938 on Tick Ridge near Pearl, IL to Lyndell and Edith Gourley Kern.

Johnie graduated from Milton High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1956 until 1959.  After his Honorable Discharge from the US Army, he worked for Mac McGlauchlen.  He went on to work from GM Railroad for 6 and a half years, and then as a truck driver for Staley Trucking for 25 years before retiring.  Johnie was in various bands over the years playing lead guitar and singing, and was the last surviving band member of the Missouri Troubadours.  He enjoyed hunting and also liked to golf.  Johnie was a past member of the Milton Christian Church and had currently attended Greenpond Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Jana (Randy) Graham of Milton, IL and Jeana (Rex) Ramsey of Milton, IL; grandchildren, Jobe (Kelsey) Arnold, Jessica Graham, Jordyn (Steven) Blackketter, and Jace Graham; great grandchildren, Janelle Arnold, Jorgia Arnold, Jantzen Blackketter, Joleigh Blackketter, Joseph Graham, and Sawyer Arnold; and a sister, Deloris Neely of Shelbina, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jill Arnold; two sister, Betty Johnson and Sue Smith; and his first wife, Jean Kern.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Greenpond Church near Pearl.  Interment will follow at Greenpond Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to the Time Cemetery Association.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Johnie was such a great guy. Always could make you laugh. Remember him coming to play at ths nursing home. Loved it. Take me back to Calhoun county. My sympathies are with you all. He will be remembered forever in so many hearts.
